1. Who are we

Puur Safaris is a Dutch-based travel organization specialized in organizing safari trips to East Africa, with destinations in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. We attach great importance to the protection of your personal data and process your data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable privacy legislation.

2. What data do we collect

When processing your booking and providing our services, we collect various categories of personal data. This primarily concerns your contact details, including your full name, email address, telephone number and postal address. This information is necessary to process your booking and to communicate with you about your trip.

We also collect travel document data such as passport number, date of birth, nationality and validity of your travel document. This information is required for applying for visas, booking flights and accommodations, and meeting the entry requirements of destination countries in East Africa.

We also collect booking data, including your travel preferences, dietary requirements, medical details relevant to your trip (only with your express consent), and payment details. Finally, we collect website usage data via functional and analytical cookies, including your IP address, browser type, pages visited and the duration of your visit.

3. Why do we collect your data

We process your personal data for a number of specific purposes. Its primary purpose is to process and fulfill your booking request, including compiling your itinerary, booking accommodations, transportation and activities, and processing payments. Without this information we cannot organize your trip.

We also use your data for communication about your booking, answering your questions, sending travel documents and practical information before your departure. With your permission, we can also inform you about relevant travel offers and newsletters. Finally, we process data to comply with legal obligations, such as tax retention obligations and the passing on of passenger data to airlines.

4. Legal basis for processing

The processing of your personal data is based on various legal bases as determined in the GDPR. To process bookings and execute the travel contract, we rely on the necessity for the performance of a contract (Article 6 (1) (b) GDPR). Sending marketing communications takes place exclusively on the basis of your express consent (Article 6 (1) (a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.

To improve our website and services, we rely on our legitimate interest (Article 6 (1) (f) GDPR), whereby we always carefully weigh up our interests. Compliance with tax and legal obligations also constitutes a legal basis for processing (Article 6(1)(c) GDPR). We always request your explicit consent for the processing of special personal data, such as medical information that is relevant to your trip.

5. With whom we share your data

In order to organize and implement your trip, we share your personal data with a number of third parties. This primarily concerns our local partners and accommodation providers in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, who are necessary for the implementation of your travel program. We have concluded processing agreements with all our partners to ensure the protection of your data.

We also share data with airlines (passenger data and API data as required by international aviation regulations), payment processors to securely process your transactions, and government services in the context of visa applications. When transferring data to countries outside the European Economic Area, we take appropriate safeguards, including the conclusion of Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) as approved by the European Commission.

6. Retention period

We do not store your personal data for longer than necessary for the purposes for which it was collected. Financial and accounting data are kept for seven (7) years after the financial year in accordance with the legal tax retention obligation. Booking data and travel documents will be kept for two (2) years after the end of your trip, unless longer retention is necessary for the handling of claims or disputes.

Marketing data and newsletter preferences will be retained for two (2) years after your last interaction with us, or until you withdraw your consent. Website usage data collected through cookies is retained for a maximum of twenty-six (26) months. After the retention period, your data will be securely deleted or anonymized.

7. Your Rights

Under the GDPR you have a number of rights with regard to your personal data. You have the right to inspect the data that we process about you, the right to rectify incorrect data, and the right to delete your data when it is no longer necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. In addition, you have the right to limit processing and the right to portability of your data.

You also have the right to object to the processing of your data based on our legitimate interest, and the right to withdraw previously given consent. 8.Cookies

Our website uses cookies to ensure the functioning of the website and to improve your user experience. We distinguish two categories of cookies. Functional cookies are necessary for the correct functioning of the website, such as remembering your language preference and keeping track of your session. These cookies are placed without your prior consent, as they are strictly necessary.

We also use analytical cookies via Vercel Web Analytics to gain anonymous insight into the use of our website. These privacy-friendly analytics do not collect personally identifiable information and do not place tracking cookies. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party cookies that track your surfing behavior across multiple websites.

9. Security

We take appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, loss, destruction or modification. Our website uses SSL/TLS encryption (HTTPS) to secure communications between your browser and our servers. Personal data is stored on secure servers and is only accessible to authorized employees who need this data to perform their work.

In the unlikely event of a data breach, we will, if required, report this to the Dutch Data Protection Authority and inform those involved in accordance with applicable legislation.

Puur Safaris reserves the right to change this privacy policy to keep it in line with changed laws and regulations or changes in our business operations. The most current version of the privacy policy is always available on our website. In the event of substantial changes that affect the way we process your data, we will notify you by e-mail or a prominent notice on our website.
